TikTok Shop has a detailed list of prohibited and restricted products. Listing a banned item can get your account suspended and payouts frozen. Here's everything US sellers need to know before they list.
These product categories cannot be listed on TikTok Shop US under any circumstances:
Firearms, weapons, and ammunition. Guns, handguns, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, gun parts, silencers, and accessories that convert legal weapons into illegal configurations.
Illegal drugs and controlled substances. Prescription medications without proper authorization, controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and products marketed for drug use.
Tobacco and nicotine products. Cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes, vaping devices, vape juice, chewing tobacco, and all nicotine products including nicotine pouches.
Alcohol. Beer, wine, spirits, and all alcoholic beverages. Non-alcoholic alternatives that mimic alcohol products are also restricted.
Adult content and products. Explicit sexual content, adult novelty items, and products primarily associated with sexual activity.
Counterfeit and IP-infringing products. Fake designer goods, unlicensed replicas, pirated software or media, and any product that infringes trademarks, copyrights, or patents.
Hazardous materials. Explosive materials, flammable liquids above thresholds, radioactive materials, and other HAZMAT-classified products.
Endangered species products. Products made from or containing endangered or protected species — ivory, certain exotic leathers, protected plant products.
Human body parts or remains. Organs, tissue, blood products (outside licensed medical contexts), and human remains of any kind.
Products making illegal health claims. Any product claiming to cure, treat, or prevent a disease without FDA drug approval — this commonly catches supplement sellers off guard.
These categories can be sold on TikTok Shop but require either special seller approval, specific compliance documentation, or strict listing content requirements:
Allowed with FDA disclaimer, complete Supplement Facts panel, no disease claims. Structure/function claims allowed ("supports immune health"). Disease claims ("treats diabetes") prohibited and will result in listing removal.
CBD products occupy a complex regulatory space. TikTok Shop's policy on CBD is restrictive and subject to change — check current Seller Center policy before attempting to list. Many CBD products are not approved for listing.
Cosmetics that make drug claims (SPF, acne treatment, anti-dandruff) require FDA drug product registration. Standard cosmetics require FDA cosmetic labeling compliance. Missing required ingredient labeling (INCI format) will cause listing removal.
FDA-classified medical devices require appropriate 510(k) clearance or exemption documentation. LED therapy devices, TENS units, blood pressure monitors, and other devices with health monitoring or treatment claims fall in this category.
Products that legally require age verification for purchase (certain knives, some energy products) may require TikTok Shop age-gating compliance. Check individual product category requirements.
Toys, clothing, and accessories for children under 12 require CPSIA compliance documentation — lead content testing, choking hazard warnings where applicable, and applicable ASTM safety standards for toys.
